Internship Description

The Government Affairs Intern at Microsoft Nigeria will work closely with the Corporate External and Legal Affairs (CELA) department. This role sits at the critical intersection of public policy, cybersecurity, AI governance, and digital transformation in Africa’s emerging markets.

Interns will be assigned meaningful tasks aligned with Microsoft’s strategic initiatives, including:

  • Policy analysis in AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and data protection
  • Collaborating with legal, public affairs, and government stakeholders
  • Supporting lobbying strategies and advocacy documents
  • Assisting in policy briefings, legislative reviews, and social campaigns

From day one, interns will gain hands-on experience with Microsoft’s senior government affairs team, building competencies that extend far beyond traditional internships.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and support comparative analysis on key legal and policy issues
  • Draft and translate regulatory documents, policy briefings, and contracts
  • Assist in organizing public sector events, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives
  • Provide logistical support for internal/external stakeholder engagements
  • Participate in Microsoft’s Ready-to-Work strategy in Africa
  • Monitor regional institutions such as AU, ECOWAS, EAC, SADC

Qualifications and Requirements

Must-Have:

  • A degree in Public Policy, Law, Political Science, or International Relations
  • Legal authorization to work in Nigeria, Kenya, or Egypt
  • Strong understanding of AI, cloud computing, and emerging technologies
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English

Nice-to-Have:

  • 1+ year of related experience in government relations, tech policy, or regulatory affairs
  • Multilingual proficiency (e.g., Arabic, French)
  • Prior experience working with African policy bodies or regional institutions
