In addition to revenue generation, the NCS plays a vital role in national security by regulating imports, preventing contraband, and implementing fiscal policy directives.

With staff deployed across land borders, seaports, and airports, the agency offers a structured, pensionable career path, health benefits, and training opportunities—making it one of the most attractive federal government jobs in Nigeria.

Once the application portal closes, the NCS begins shortlisting applicants. This involves checking submitted details like age, educational qualifications, and nationality against the recruitment criteria. If you are shortlisted, you will be notified via SMS and email, and invited to take the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

The CBT is a compulsory stage where candidates are tested on English language, mathematics, general knowledge, logical reasoning, and basic customs-related topics. It usually takes place at designated test centers across the country, and only those who pass will move to the next phase.

Successful CBT candidates are invited for physical screening and document verification. During this stage, applicants are assessed for physical fitness, height requirements, and general appearance. You’ll also need to present original documents like your SSCE or higher certificates, valid means of identification, birth certificate or affidavit, certificate of origin, and a medical fitness certificate.

Following the physical screening, candidates must undergo a comprehensive medical examination at a government-approved hospital. This assessment confirms your physical and mental fitness for paramilitary duties and checks for underlying health issues or communicable diseases.

In some cases, particularly for higher or specialized roles like Superintendent Cadre, applicants may be invited for further evaluation, including oral interviews or psychometric testing to assess leadership skills, communication, and job-related knowledge.

Finally, the Nigeria Customs Service will publish the names of successful candidates on their official website and recruitment portal. Those selected will receive appointment letters and be invited for training at designated Customs training schools. After completing the induction, they will be posted to various departments and formations across the country to begin their career with the NCS.
